Jane wants to determine the shortest route from her home to her workplace.She walks only on the sidewalks indicated by dotted lines on the map. What is
the distance of the shortest route from home to work to the nearest block?
(IMPORTANT NOTE - 1) Turn radicals into decimals. 2) Do not round decimals
until the very end of the problem).
HELP PLEASE I have no idea how to do this
Jane wants to determine the shortest route from her home - 1

Answer 1
Answer:

The distance between two points on a plane can be found by Pythagoras's theorem.

The shortest route from her home to her workplace is the route that passes along the block in the middle of the graph ,which is approximately 2.5 blocks shorter, than the apparently next shortest route.

Reason:

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

The shortest route to her workplace are the routes that approximate a straight line the most.

Following the dotted lines, there are two routes, that are approximately direct and therefore short routes to her workplace which are;

  • The route heading past the block close to the center of the map to her workplace
  • The route to the left of the above route

Taking the route that passes close to the center of the map to her workplace ,gives;

Path 1 = √(2² + 4²) = 2·√5 (by Pythagoras's theorem)

Path 2 = √(1² + 2²) = √5

Path 3 = 1 + 1 = 2

Path 4 = √(2² + 3²) = √13

Path 5 = 3

Cumulativedistance = 2·√5 + √5 + 2 + √13 + 3 ≈ 15.3

Taking the route to the left of the above route, gives;

Path 1 = √(2² + 4²) = 2·√5

Path 2 = 7 + 6 = 13

Cumulative distance = 2·√5 + 13 ≈ 17.5

Therefore, the shortest route is the route that heads to her workplace, through, close to the center of the map, which approximately 17.5 blocks - 15.3 blocks  = 2.5 blocks shorter

If b^2=a then b is what of a?

Answers

Answer:

\huge\boxed{b = √(a)}

Step-by-step explanation:

If we have an equation b^2 = a and we want to find what b is in relation to a, we can change the equation so that we have b on one side and whatever is on the other side is what b is.

b^2 = a

To isolate b, we can take the square root of both sides as taking the square root of something squared results in the base.

√(b^2) = √(a)

b = √(a)

So b is the square root of a.

Hope this helped!

If Point M has a coordinate of -1 and MN = 7, what are the possible coordinates of point N?

Answers

Answer:

-8 and 6

Step-by-step explanation:

Coordinate of point M = -1

Distance between M and a point N = MN = 7

Therefore, the possible coordinates of N can either be:

To the left => -1 - 7 = -8

Or

To the right => -1 + 7 = 6

Check:

If M = -1, and N = -8, MN = |-1 -(-8)| = |-1 + 8| = 7

Or

If M = -1, and N = 6, MN = |-1 - 6| = |-7| = 7

So, our answer is right.

Possible coordinates of point N are -8 and 6

For #7 Find the measure of each numbered angle in the rectangle?

Answers

Answer:

1= 29

2= 61

3= 90

4= 29

5= 90

Step-by-step explanation:

A rectangle has 4 - 90 degree angles. This means angles 3 and 5 are 90. This means the other angle will be split into two parts that add together to 90. If one is 61 then the other is 29. This is angle 4. This means angle 2 is 61 and angle 1 is 29 because rectangles have parallel sides.
