Answer: No, it's just supposed to make you think. It just means that people should actually think of what they're saying and choose descriptive words. A lot of the time, people use words that have rather simple or ambiguous meanings. For example, if someone says they feel good, that really doesn't tell anyone much of anything. What does it mean to feel good? It could mean you're really happy, or just mean not feeling bad. Instead, you should say exactly how good you feel, and why.

Read the sentence below and answer the following question: If we set the boat on fire, there's a chance someone may see us before the boat sinks. Which answer correctly summarizes the meaning of this sentence? - It is ironic that destroying the thing keeping them afloat may save them. -It is sarcasm that really suggests not setting the boat on fire. -It is satire related to an entirely different set of circumstances. -It is understated despair for the serious situation. Im stuck between B and D please help :(

Answers

It is sarcasm that really suggests not setting the boat on fire. This is the correct option.

This may be said by a person who is criticising somebody else's idea. The chances of being seen by someone in a boat on fire are almost non-existent. If they are still alive , someone may still see them if they remain in the current situation: no fire on the boat. Yet, if they set fire on the boat, they will certainly sink and die. In case someone sees the fire, will they arrive on time to rescue them?

These options are not right:

-It is ironic that destroying the thing keeping them afloat may save them. ( The speaker thinks he / she will be able to remain in the boat before it sinks. The speaker does not make reference to being kept afloat).

-It is satire related to an entirely different set of circumstances. ( There is not enough information to infer which the other circumstances are).

--It is understated despair for the serious situation. ( The situation sounds serious but " understated  despair" sounds contradictory. "Understated" means discrete)

Which of the following is an example of a physiological issue that may affect understanding? a. An audience member is preoccupied by a recent argument with his spouse and does not listen to the speaker. b. An audience member is hard of hearing and cannot hear the speaker. c. An audience member cannot hear the speaker due to malfunctioning sound equipment. d. An audience member is rustling papers causing others not to be able to hear the speaker.

Answers

The correct answer is B. An audience member is hard of hearing and cannot hear the speaker

Explanation:

The word physiology is a concept of biology that refers to the functions of the body of living organisms including the way human body functions. In the case of public speaking, a physiological issue refers to any physiological condition or issue (dealing with the functions of the body) in the audience or the speaker that impedes the audience understands the information of the speech or the speaker can deliver appropriately the information to the audiences and which is not linked to external issues but to the body functions. Considering this, an example of a physiological issue that may affect understanding is "an audience member is hard of hearing and cannot hear the speaker" as in this case, the issue is in the functions of the body of the audience member and specifically the function of hearing which is classified as physiological.

A) This is not a physiological issue, rather a psychological issue.

b) I wouldn't call it "physiological" but I think it is the best option, yes

c) This would not be a physiological issue, but rather a technical issue

d) this is not a physiological issue.

Identify the word which the italicized adjective clause modifies. My most unusual uncle is the man (whose portrait hangs) on the wall.
uncle
man
portrait

Answers

The correct answer is man. Adjective clauses are relative clauses that come immediately after the noun they modify and are introduced by a relative pronoun (that, which, who, whose, etc.) which connects the clause to the noun being described. In the example, the adjective clause whose portrait hangs comes after the noun man; consequently, it modifies the word man.

This adjective clause, 'whose portrait hangs' refers to, or modifies 'man'.
