A spring has an original length L inches. When a weight of x pounds is suspended from the spring, its new length y is given by the formula y = L + x k , where k is a constant, measured in pounds per inch. Solve the formula for x. Show the steps in your work. The value of k for a certain spring is 2.5. The length of the spring is found to be double its original length when a 10 pound weight is suspended from it. Write the equation for the original length of the spring and solve it. Show the steps in your work.

The way I figured this one out was saying that if it takes 2lbs to stretch it to 12 inches and 5lbs to stretch to 18 inches that means that 3 additional pounds = 6 inches. Therefore, each additional pound is 2 inches. We know already that with 2 lbs it was 12 inches in length and we can also say that 2 lbs = 4 inches. So subtract 4 from 12 and you end up with the answer of 8 inches.

Solve this equation 5x-3=7-3x

Answers

ffirst you try to get all the unknowns on one side si
5x-3=7-3x
add 3x to both sides
8x-3=7
add 3 to both sides
8x=10
divide both sides by 8
x=10/8=5/4= 1 and 1/4=1.25
5x-3=7-3x\ \ \ \ | add\ 3x\n\n8x-3=7\ \ \ \ | add\ 3\n\n8x=10\ \ \ | divide\ by\ 8\n\nx=(10)/(8)=(5)/(4)=1(1)/(4)\n\nx=1(1)/(4)

Pls helppppp 25 pt and brainiest for whoever answers it right. Find the longest side of a parallelogram with a perimeter of 66ft., If the sides measure 3x + 1 and 2x - 3.

Answers

Given:-

  • Perimeter of parallelogram = 66 ft

  • One side,a = 3x + 1

  • Other side,b = 2x - 3

Tofindout:-

Find the longest side of a parallelogram.

Formulaused:-

Perimeter of parallelogram = 2 ( a + b )

Solution:-

We know that,

Perimeter of parallelogram = 2 ( a + b )

★ Substituting the values in the above formula,we get:

⇒ 66 = 2 ( 3x + 1 + 2x - 3 )

⇒ 66 = 2 ( 5x - 2 )

⇒ 66/2 = 5x - 2

⇒ 33 = 5x - 2

⇒ 5x - 2 = 33

⇒ 5x = 33 + 2

⇒ 5x = 35

⇒ x = 35/5

⇒ x = 7 ft

Now,

One side,a = 3x + 1

★ Putting the value of x

⇒ 3 × 7 + 1

⇒ 21 + 1

⇒ 22 ft

Other side,b = 2x - 3

★ Putting the value of x

⇒ 2 × 7 - 3

⇒ 14 - 3

⇒ 11 ft

Hence,thelongestSideofgivenparallelogramis22ft(3x+1).
