The purpose of this figurative language is to create a picture in the reader's mind. It can also help to set the mood of the story.
Conceit is being prideful. A conceited person is one who is extremely egotistical and excessively proud of him/herself.
Metonymy is using an object as a substitute for the name of the concept. An example would be a baseball diamond for baseball game.
