Explain how Chinese philosophies presented a different version of an ideal ruler

Answers

Answer 1
Answer:

The Zhou dynasty ruled China from c. 1046 BC to 256 BC. They believed they had the Mandate of Heaven, God's divine will for them to rule. Such mandate consisted of a cycle, so every dynasty would eventually decay after a period of prosperity, become authoritarian, Heaven would sent signs to show the people the ruler has lost its favour, such as droughts and famine, so the people would riot against the emperor, overthrow him and a new leader would rise to occupy his place, starting a new dynasty cycle of prosperity, decay, disasters and riots.

The Zhou used a relationship system called feudalism, they gave some loyal supporters lands and absolute power over the peasants working those lands, in exchange for soldiers. This system worked for a while until 700 BC, when landlords began fighting each other. These troubled times led some scholars to debate the proper way to rule. Three major philosophies come from this.

- Confucianism: it establishes basic relationships of people, ruler and subject, husband and wife, father and  son, older sibling and younger sibling, and friend and friend. The first element is the one that rules, and the other one must obey. It establishes that the correct way of ruling is by example: the first element of it pair must set good example.

- Daoism:  based on the  ancient Chinese idea of the Dao, or "the Way", the force that gives order to the natural universe. It established that everyone must find dao by themselves, too many rules conflicts with the natural flow. So the best way of ruling is by ruling the least.

- Legalism: this particular conception believes that people are selfish and act upon their own interest. So good ruling would be to establish strong laws, to enforce them and to set harsh punishments to those who break them, in order to create some order in society.

Answers

The period from 1865 to 1900, known as the Gilded Age, was marked by the perception of great wealth and social growth, while actually being a time of great social issues that were hidden by a "gold gilding".

Final answer:

The Gilded Age (1865 to 1900) in US history was marked by rapid economic growth, notably in the Northern and Western parts. However, concurrently, this era was shadowed by political corruption, massive disparity in wealth, and social issues.

Explanation:

The period from 1865 to 1900, also referred to as the Gilded Age, was a significant era in the United States characterized by rapid economic growth, particularly in the North and West. This period observed America's industrial economy expanding and emerging as a global power, led by tycoons and industrialists such as Rockefeller, Carnegie, and Vanderbilt. This era was also marked by political corruption, income inequality, and social issues, justifying the term 'gilded,' meaning having a golden exterior but made of cheaper material beneath. The name 'Gilded Age' came from the title of an 1873 novel by Mark Twain and Charles Dudley Warner, which satirizes the greed and political corruption of the period.

In what year was the urban population of the United States roughly equal to the rural population

Answers

Answer:

1920

Explanation:

In 1920, the ratio of the urban and rural population was in 51:49. The population of the United States remained approximately the same in both region. The rural population moved to the urban for jobs and to live in a better condition than in rural. The standards of living were different between the city and the country. Rural areas were without electricity, where 50 per cent of urban homes had electricity. Life was getting easier in the city. Electricity opened the door for small appliances and washing machine.

The 1920 United States census recorded that 51.2% of the population was living in urban areas. Since the census is taken only every ten years, we don't really have great data for the years in between, so 1920 is the closest we have to a year where the urban/rural split was roughly 50/50.
