Write 60/100 as a percent

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: The characters " /100 " mean " % ".

So " 60/100 " can be written "60%".
Answer 2
Answer: if it's out of 100, the answer is just the numerator, in this case 60%

A fence 8 ft tall runs parallel to a tall building at a distance of 4 ft from the building. What is the length of the shortest ladder that will reach from the ground over the fence to the wall of the building? (Round your answer to two decimal places.)

Answers

Answer:

  16.65 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

You want the length of the shortest ladder that will reach a building over an 8 ft high fence that is 4 ft from the building.

Similar triangles

As in the attached diagram, we can define the length of segment AX from the fence to the ladder base as 'x'. Then the length of the ladder to the top of the fence is found using the Pythagorean theorem to be ...

  BX = √(x² +8²)

The remaining length of the ladder is the hypotenuse of a triangle similar to ∆BAX. The scale factor is DA/AX = 4/x, so the length of the remaining ladder is ...

  CB = (4/x)BX = (4/x)√(x² +8²)

Ladder length

The total ladder length is the sum of its parts:

  CX = CB +BX

  CX = (4/x)√(x² +8²) +√(x² +8²)

  CX = (1 +4/x)√(x² +8²)

Minimum length

The minimum length will be that associated with the value of x that makes the derivative of CX be zero. The second attachment shows the derivative of the total length function in terms of generic distances DA=d and BA=h. For this problem, where (d, h) = (4, 8), the derivative is ...

  CX' = (1+4/x)x/√(x² +8²) -(4/x²)√(x² +8²)

Expressing this over a common denominator, we have ...

  CX' = (x³ -4·8²)/(x²√(x²+8²))

This is zero when ...

  x³ -4·8² = 0   ⇒   x = 4∛4 ≈ 6.3496

Total length

Using this value in the ladder length formula above, we find the length of the ladder to be ...

  CX = (1 +4/6.3496)√(6.3496² +8²) ≈ 16.64775

The length of the shortest ladder is about 16.65 feet.

Thank you Philo for your answer. I have one more question for you regarding the same rectangular prism that is 3 units long, 2 units wide and has 7 layers and 42 cubic units, how many cubes of the prism would have exactly one face showing on the outside? Please

Answers

Alright. So we have a rectangular prism 3 long, 2 wide, and 7 high. That would have a volume of 42 because the volume of a rectangular prism is it's length times its width times its height. Now the question is if that prism is made up of cubic centimeter cubes, how many are on the outside? My strategy for this would be to find how many are on the inside. If we were to subtract two from every measurement (getting rid of cubes on the outside, essentially) we would be left with the volume of the cubes that don't touch the outside. Make sense?

3 - 2 = 1
2 - 2 = 0
7 - 2 = 5

So suppose we have a rectangular prism with measurements 1, 0, and 5. The volume is 1*0*5 which is...0. Because the prism is 2 cubes thick, there's nothing that's NOT on the outside. With another similar problem, however, that is how you would solve it.

(07.04) When 27 times x squared times z all over negative 3 times x squared times z to the sixth power is completely simplified, the exponent on the variable z is _____. Numerical Answers Expected! Answer for Blank 1:

Answers

Answer:

The exponent on variable z is -5

Step-by-step explanation:

(27x^2z)/(-3x^2z^6)

To simplify it we apply property of exponents

a^m / a^n = a^m-n

LEts divide the number first

27/ -3= -9

we have x^2 at the top and bottom . so we cancel it out

(z)/(z^6) =(z^1)/(z^6) =z^(-5)

Now combine all the terms

-9z^-5

The exponent on variable z is -5

The answer is negative 5
