Please read this and give me your input. Its the begining part of a story im writingThe night was cold and dreary, a piercing black as pure moonlight glinted off broken glass littering the streets. Dezmond and Kendra briskly walked down the barren streets of Diverlin like shadows in the night. Old weathered shops and boarding houses lined the roads, crooked teeth protruding from the earth. The pungent stench of filth and squalor with a light touch of seawater filled the air. Turning the corner onto an adjacent street where gas lamps hung overhead casting puddles of yellow light onto the road, the duo stuck to the middle of the cracked cobblestone lane, avoiding the light and ultimately, detection from nosy onlookers. Although the infinity tower had just chimed once, signaling it to be one in the morning, you could never be too certain that you were actually alone on the streets of Diverlin. Information, especially on secret affairs being conducted at unholy hours of the night...

Which of the following best describes science fiction?A. The events and characters are ordinary.
B. The story is set in the present or past.
C. Characters often face problems related to future technological advancements.

Answers

The correct answer is C. Characters often face problems related to future technological advancements.

As the name itself says, science fiction is something made up (fiction) that has to do with science. Usually, the story is set in the future, or in space, so B is incorrect. A is also incorrect because the characters within science fiction are anything but ordinary - take Chewbacca from Star Wars franchise as an example.

Science fiction has to do with

1) Science - the stories are based on technology, often technology that doeis not yet exist, often space travel

2) Fiction, so not real stories

So the correct answer is :
C. Characters often face problems related to future technological advancements.

Science fiction lets us imagine stories that are not possible today such as human cloning and make us question what ethical and other problems would arise.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollowby Washington Irving (excerpt)

"Spare the rod and spoil the child."—Ichabod Crane’s scholars certainly were not spoiled.
I would not have it imagined, however, that he was one of those cruel potentates of the school, who joy in the smart of their subjects; on the contrary, he administered justice with discrimination rather than severity; taking the burden off the backs of the weak, and laying it on those of the strong. Your mere puny stripling, that winced at the least flourish of the rod, was passed by with indulgence; but the claims of justice were satisfied by inflicting a double portion on some little, tough, wrong-headed, broad-skirted Dutch urchin, who sulked and swelled and grew dogged and sullen beneath the birch. All this he called "doing his duty by their parents;" and he never inflicted a chastisement without following it by the assurance, so consolatory to the smarting urchin, that "he would remember it, and thank him for it the longest day he had to live."

What important fact about Ichabod Crane comes to light in the passage?

A. Ichabod was a just teacher who treated his students impartially.
B. Ichabod was a good teacher who tried to do right by his students.
C. Ichabod was a fair teacher who was misunderstood by his students.
D. Ichabod was an unjust teacher who punished his students with prejudice.
