Rome was said to have the "presidency of love" by St. Ignatius of Antioch, a martyr for his Christian beliefs who died in the vicinity of 110 AD. St. Peter and St. Paul are also credited with founding the church at Rome, and they both allegedly passed away there.
According to the Book of Acts, Jerusalem was the first church hub, and the Catholic Encyclopedia describes it as the site of "the first Christian church." After Pentecost, the apostles spent some time there teaching and living.
