The sentence Looking up from the book, the fire alarm caught my attention should be the fire alarm caught my attention, so I looked up from my book.
Attention is the behavioural and cognitive process of selectively concentrating on a discrete aspect of information, whether considered subjective or objective while ignoring other perceivable information.
William James wrote that Attention is the taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seems several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration, of consciousness are of its essence." Attention has also been described as the allocation of limited cognitive processing resources. Attention is manifested by an attentional bottleneck, in terms of the amount of data the brain can process each second.
For example, in human vision, only less than 1% of the visual input data at around one megabyte per second can enter the bottleneck, leading to inattentional blindness.

Answer:
Dee thinks that Mama and Maggie do not understand or appreciate their heritage because they routinely use the family items that Dee thinks should be preserved. First, she marvels over the rump prints in the benches that her father made when they were too poor to buy chairs. Then, she insists that she wants Grandma Dee's butter dish (even though she doesn't want to keep her name, same as her grandmother's), then the churn top and the dasher: all of which Mama and Maggie still use in daily life.

In “The Most Dangerous Game” the relationship between Rainsford and General Zaroff is not by blood, they are just getting to know each other. Meanwhile, In “The Sniper” the relationship between the sniper and the dead man is that they are brothers. So, while both men’s intentions were to kill their ‘prey’, the sniper wasn’t aware of who his prey was. In the Sniper it states, “When the sniper reached the laneway on the street level, he felt a sudden curiosity as to the identity of the enemy sniper whom he had killed… Then the sniper turned over the dead body and looked into his brother's face.” Even though the story ended at that, we can predict that the sniper wasn’t proud or happy at finding out who he killed. On the other hand, In “The Most Dangerous Game” Rainsford knows who he killed and is proud of doing so. “He had never slept in a better bed, Rainsford decided.” From this, we can infer that Rainsford is not regretful by killing Zaroff, and is sleeping peacefully knowing Zaroff is gone.
