The first working lockstitch/sewing machine was invented by Englishman Thomas Saint in 1790. Lockstitch machines have long history of development, but the three inventors have been most important for development are Charles Fredrick Wiesenthal, Thomas Saint and William Newton Wilson. Charles Fredrick Wiesenthal invented the first patent for lockstitch machine, the design of the first working lockstitch machine was made by Thomas Saint which William Newton Wilson later improved improved.
Walter Hunt
The first Lock stitch sewing machine was invented by Walter Hunt in the year 1832. His machine was comprised of an eye-pointed needle (with the eye and the point on the same end) carrying the upper thread and a falling shuttle carrying the lower thread.
