If a grocery cart with a mass of 16.5 kg accelerates at +2.31 m/s2 against a frictional force of -15.0 N, what is the applied force?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: Call the applied force 'A'. (Clever ?)

The forces on the cart are  'A' forward and 15 N backward.

The net force on the art is (A-15) forward.

F = m a

Net forward force = (mass of the cart) x (its forward acceleration)

(A - 15) = (16.5) x (2.31)

A - 15 = 38.115

Add 15 to each side:

A = 53.115 newtons

Answer 2
Answer: 2th Law of Newton:

\vec{R}=m.a\n \n \vec{R}=\vec{F} -\vec{F_a}=m.a\n \n \vec{F}-15=16.5*2.31\n \n \vec{F}=38.115+15\n \n \boxed{\vec{F}=53.115 \ N}

The transuranium synthesis process involves creating a transuranium element through ____.A.) The synthesis of heavy elements
B.) The transmutation of a lighter element
C.) The transmutation of uranium

Answers

The transuranium synthesis process involves creating a transuranium element through the transmutation of a lighter element. The answer is letter B. Transuranium elements are the elements with atomic numbers greater than 92. All of these elements are unstable and decay radioactively into other elements.

Okay i'm totally stuck and nobody I know really gets it either, so i've turned to Yahoo for help :) Basically there are four aliens on a planet. They want to go on a sea-saw. The end seats on the sea-saw are 2m from the pivot, and the middle seats are 1m from the pivot. The Aliens way 400N, 300N, 200N and 100N - which two can sit on the sea-saw (on any of the seats) and make it balance? It'd be a huge help if you at least help me work out the answer! :)

Here is the rule for see-saws here on Earth, and there is no reason
to expect that it doesn't work exactly the same anywhere else:

(weight) x (distance from the pivot) on one side
is equal to
(weight) x (distance from the pivot) on the other side.

That's why, when Dad and Tiny Tommy get on the see-saw, Dad sits
closer to the pivot and Tiny Tommy sits farther away from it.

       (Dad's weight) x (short length) = (Tiny Tommy's weight) x (longer length).

So now we come to the strange beings on the alien planet.
There are three choices right away that both work:

#1).
(400 N) in the middle-seat, facing (200 N) in the end-seat.

       (400) x (1)  =    (200) x (2)

#2).
(200 N) in the middle-seat, facing (100 N) in the end-seat.

       (200) x (1)  =    (100) x (2)

#3).

On one side:  (300 N) in the end-seat       (300) x (2) = 600

On the other side:
                      (400 N) in the middle-seat  (400) x (1) = 400
           and     (100 N) in the end-seat      (100) x (2) = 200
                                                    Total . . . . . . . . . . . . 600

These are the only ones to be identified at Harvard . . . . . . .
There may be many others but they haven't been discarvard.

400N and 100N on one side and 300N and 200N on the other side

If the potential energy and the kinetic energy are not the same, where did the leftover energy go?

Answers

Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transformed into a different kind of energy work or power.

If this is the case, then the energy likely left the system through external forces or heat dissipated into the environment.

What does the measurement 6.5 V represent?

Answers

I'm not sure.
Where did you see it ?

If you saw it on a voltmeter, then it stands for "6.5 volts".
It tells you that the 'potential difference' or 'electromotive force'
between the two points connected to the meter is 6.5 volts.

-- If a 1-ohm resistor were connected between those two points,
then 6.5 coulombs of charge would move through the resistor every
second.  We would say that the "current" through the resistor is
6.5 Amperes, or "six'na half amps".

-- Each coulomb of charge (6.25 x 10¹⁸ electrons) that moves from
one of those points to the other one either gains or loses 6.5 joules
of energy, depending on which direction it moves.

-- So the resistor would need to shed heat somehow, at the rate of
6.5 watts (6.5 joules per second).  If it couldn't do that, then it would
go through an interesting series of changes.  It would get warm, then
get hot, then glow cherry red, then glow bright red, then glow orange,
then glow bright yellow, then make a sound like a "POP".  Then it would
break in the middle, and a little wisp of smoke would come out of it.
The two halves of the resistor would sink, sag from their wires, and
the current between the two points would stop.

We would say that the resistor had "fused", "failed", "melted", "burned out",
or "bought the farm" ... all because it couldn't get rid of heat fast enough.
