There was a world of darkness,  and a large meadow. In the meadow was a small sphere that slowly formed into the sun. As it flooded over the meadow, in the same spot as the sphere, a woman grew out of the earth. The woman was named Januki. Since Januki was the goddess of all creation, she made a river flow through the meadow. One side was the side of evil and chaos, and the other side was of light and beauty.  She formed a man from the river and sent him to the side of chaos, and named him Nukaga.They formed a son named Nukaga. They formed a son named Gegune. He ruled the river, and married a person whom he cut from the meadow. Her name was Jinkaya. Jinkaya was the goddess of Earth, and eventually all the gods and godessess were born. One of these gods, Kiuanio, was bitten by a poisonous snake in the meadow and became a dog. He made all the animals today and named them. The river flooded and swept everything away. All the gods, goddessess, and Kiuanio, used their powers to make earth.

Men get paid more then women, for the same amount of work. Females carry a child for 9 months, they are physically creating a life inside their bodies. Females also have to go through the pain of child birth, and deal with the aftermath of breast feeding the child. There are many more reason why men have it easier in the world, but those were on the top of my head.

My ancestors: a project by Ben Winterhayes, Applewood School, Sydney, New South
Wales.
I am very proud of one of my ancestors, John Winterhayes. He arrived on a ship from
England in 1820. He was a criminal! Well, not exactly a criminal. This is his story:
John was born in London. His father died when he was 13 years old. His family were
very poor and often hungry. One cold winter’s day, he stole some food in the market
because he was very hungry.
John was caught and brought before a magistrate. In those days the British used to send
their prisoners to Australia. New South Wales was a prison colony and John was sent
there for seven years.
At that time the journey to Australia was very difficult. The journey took at least three
months.
There were often bad storms and there wasn’t much food for the prisoners. Sometimes
the weather was very hot and sometimes very cold. The prisoners were often sick and
sometimes died before they arrived in Australia.
My ancestor John never returned to England again. He never saw his mother, or his
little brothers and sisters, again. But he met a girl called Heather MacMaster and they
got married in Sydney in 1830.
That’s the story of one of my ancestors!
