What mixed number represents 2.85

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: First, take out the whole number portion, and solve the decimal part, which is 0.85. 0.85 = 85/100. So, the mixed number would be 2 85/100. However, most teachers want you to simplify your mixed numbers, so divide both numbers by a factor that you think is common. 5 is a common factor, so 85/5 = 17. 100/5 = 20. So, the answer is simplified to 2 17/20.
Hope that helped.

Write an expression for: the product of 3 and the quantity of a number minus 7

Answers

"The product" immediately suggests multiplication; we're going to be multiplying two quantities together, "3" and "a number minus 7"

"A number" just describes an unknown value, so we'll pick the letter n to be that unknown in our expression. "A number minus 7" then could be written as n - 7.

We can now write the product of 3 and (n - 7) as the expression

3 × (n - 7)

Final answer:

The expression that represents 'the product of 3 and the quantity of a number minus 7' can be written in algebra as 3*(x - 7). Here, x is our variable and can be any number.

Explanation:

The student is asking for an expression that represents 'the product of 3 and the quantity of a number minus 7'. In terms of algebra, this can be expressed in the following way: assuming the 'number' is represented by a variable, like x, we can write it as 3*(x - 7).

This mathematical expression says that we first subtract 7 from our number, x, and then multiply the result by 3.

For example: if x is 10, we would first calculate 10 - 7, which is 3, and then multiply that result by 3, yielding a final product of 9.

The figure below represents a building in the shape of a pentagon. Using the scale 1 inch = 94 feet, what isthe perimeter of the building?

Answers

If 1 inch = 94 feet, 4 inches is 94 × 4.

94 × 4 = 376

Add 376 to itself 5 times, or use a simpler method and multiply 376 by 5.

376 + 376 + 376 + 376 + 376 = 1,880

376 × 5 = 1,880

Answer:

The perimeter is 1,880 feet. (20 without the scale applied)
