"Marriage is a Private Affair" is a short story that was written by author Chinua Achebe and it was published in 1952. In essence, this story narrates the life of three characters: Nnaemeka, Okeke and Nene. Okeke, is Nnaemeka´s father, a member of the Igbo tribe and fierce Christian who upholds all of the Igbo traditions with zeal. Nnaemeka is Okeke´s son and he causes a big rift with his father after he decides to marry a woman who is not of Okeke´s choosing, and who does not uphold the Christian beliefs because she is a teacher. And finally, we have Nene, a woman who lives in Lagos and who becomes Nnaemeka´s wife and the reason for the break-up between father and son. In the end, and after Nene and Nnaemeka get married and have children, despite Okeke´s refusal to accept his son´s choice, Okeke ends up caving in because Nene writes him a letter telling him about his two grandchildren and how they desire to know him. Okeke, during a serious storm, goes to bed worried, and hardly sleeps, because he might die estranged from his grandchildren and his son. This is why the correct answer is D: The pleas that Nene sends on her children´s behalf.

"The best sport in the world."
"For the hunter," amended Whitney. "Not for the jaguar."
"Don't talk rot, Whitney," said Rainsford. "You're a big-game hunter, not a philosopher. Who cares how a jaguar feels?"
"Perhaps the jaguar does," observed Whitney.
"Bah! They've no understanding."
"Even so, I rather think they understand one thing—fear. The fear of pain and the fear of death."
The Most Dangerous Game story as two major themes. The first one is reason vs. Instinct and The Effects of War.
On this excerpt, you can see that the theme is reason vs. instinct. The hunter thinks that hunting is a good sport even though it kills an animal that has no way of defending itself. The character Whitney defends that the jaguar has feelings, especially the fear of pain and being killed.
This way this character is used to blur differences between animals and humans, that both have the same feelings.
The key theme reflected in the excerpt from Richard Connell’s story 'The Most Dangerous Game' is the indifference of the hunter towards the hunted and the shared fear of pain and death. It foreshadows the twist of roles where Rainsford, the hunter becomes hunted.
In Richard Connell’s story 'The Most Dangerous Game,' the excerpt depicts the theme of indifference and insensitivity of hunters towards their prey and the understanding that each creature has a common fear of pain and death. While one character Rainsford, insists that the jaguars they're hunting possess no understanding, Whitney, another character, implies that they must understand the common fears that all creatures possess. This conversation prepares the reader for the later parts of the story when these roles of hunter and hunted are switched and Rainsford becomes the hunted much like the jaguars he so casually dismissed.

Manifest Destiny is a phrase coined in the year 1845. It is the belief that the expansion of the United States was justified by God and unavoidable.
Manifest destiny was a 19th-century American cultural belief that American settlers were fated to spread across North America.
The term "Manifest Destiny" refers to the belief that the United States of America is destined to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific coasts. Supporters use this concept to justify other territorial acquisitions. This ideology's supporters believe that expansion is not only good, but also obvious and accurate. This ideology could be summarized in the phrase: "By the Divine or God's Authority". Over time, the phrase evolved into a doctrine.
Therefore, Manifest Destiny was the belief that Americans had the right to settle throughout America, until the Pacific Ocean.
