Voice is how the author expresses themselves in the story. Each author writes differently and tells the story in a unique way and can sometimes use literary devices in different ways to convey what they mean and evoke upon the audience the emotion they want to introduce. For example: one author may write “He was in his black suit getting ready for the funeral though he couldn’t feel anything” while another may write “He decided to wear the black suit to assist the funeral. However, the more he thought about it the more perplexed he was as he realized that he felt nothing towards the person he loved” One author can sum up a situation while another does their best to describe the situation and emotion of the character in detail.
Quoting from Literary devices/voice it says: “Voice in literature is the individual style in which a certain author writes his or her works.” Also, the devices they can use is “stylistic techniques, including syntax, semantics, diction, dialogue, character development, tone, pacing, and even punctuation”
The metaphor he tried to help but his legs were like rubber means that he was injured and that was unable to walk.
A metaphor can be understood as a figure of speech that, for rhetorical effect, directly refers to one thing by mentioning another. It may provide clarity or identify hidden similarities between two different ideas. They are generally compared with other types of figurative languages, such as antithesis, hyperbole, metonymy, and simile.
The word metaphor itself is a metaphor, coming from a Greek term which implies transference. The user of a metaphor alters the reference of the word, carrying it from one semantic realm to another. The new meaning of the word might be derived from an analogy between the two semantic realms, but also other reasons such as the distortion of the semantic realm for example in sarcasm.
Metaphors are most frequently compared with similes.
