Part B: How much sooner could you purchase the bicycle is you had a coupon for $20 off and saved $8.75 every week? Explain your reasoning.

Answer 1
Answer: A. since you already have $43.50 already saved you subtract that from the amount the bike cost so you can see how much more needs to be left to save and that gives you $72.50. Then you divide the amount your saving up every week from that. So $72.50 divided by $7.25 is 10 and thats how many weeks it will take to save.

B. Since you still have that $43.50 saved and you have a coupon for $20 dollars off . Add those together to see how much you have saved up which equals $63.50. The bike is $116 so you subtract the amount you have for the bike from $116 which is $63.50 and that equals $52.50 and thats how much more money you need. Then divide how much money needed by the amount your saving up a week, which is $8.75. So $52.50 divided by $8.75 is 6 and thats how many weeks it will now take to get the bike.

52 companies; 25% increase find original amount?

Answers

To find your answer, you would find 25% of 52. To find 25% of 52, you would multiply 52x.25.
52x.25=13
Now you need to subtract 52-13. 52-13 is 39. The original amount is 39 companies.

A recipe for cookies calls for 3 1/4 cups of sugar. Amy has already put in 3 1/9 cups. How many more cups does she need to put in?

Answers

so 3 and 1/4 is equal to 4/4+4/4+4/4+1/4=13/4

so she put in 3 and 1/9 or 9/9+9/9+9/9+1/9 or 28/9

28/9+x=13/4
13/4-28/9=x

so we convert so that the bottom numbers are the same

a short cut is 3 and 1/4+x=3 and 1/9
3 1/9+x=3 1/4
subtract 3 from both sides
1/9+x=1/4
subtract 1/4 from both sides
x=1/4-1/9
convert bottom number to same thing
1/9=4/36
1/4=9/36
x=9/36-4/36
x=5/36
5/36 cups
the answer in 5/36 of a cup

alis dog weighs 8 times as much as her cat. together, the two pets weigh 54 pynds. how much does Alis dog weigh?

Answers

The weight of the Alis dog is \fbox{\bf48} pounds.

Further explanation:

Consider the weight of the Alis dog as xpoundsand weight of the cat as ypounds.

Since, the weight of the Alis dog is 8 times the weight of the cat. It can be written as follows:

x=8y                                                                     ......(1)

Now, the total weight of the cat and dog are given as 54 pounds. It can be written as follows:

x+y=54                                                                 ......(2)

From equation (1), substitute 8y for x in equation (2).

\begin{aligned}8y+y&=54\n9y&=54\ny&=(54)/(9)\ny&=6\end{aligned}

Thus, the weight of the cat is 6 pounds.

Substitute 6 for y in equation (1) to obtain the weight of Alis dog as follows:

\begin{aligned}x&=8(6)\n&=48\end{aligned}

Thus, the weight of the Alis dog is 48 pounds.
