How did imperialism change between 1600 and 1900?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: In the 1600s Imperialism was based around colonialization in the Americas and establishing trade in the east.  During this period the Americas were being colonized intensely by the Europeans that were racing to gain as much land and prestige as possible.  In the east, however, the main goal was to reach the Spice Islands (modern day Indonesia) and establish trade routes for the spices the Europeans desperately craved.

Comparatively, in the 1900's Imperialism consisted of taking up land in places such as India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.  This was done in a "mission to civilize" meaning it was less about economics and now a more political and racial element were used to justify European conquest.

We can see the effect of Gideon v. Wainwright today when we see :Johnny has many of the same rights as adults to due process
A judge assigned to Johnny's case will determine the process to follow
His parents have the right to take Johnny out of a detention center
The court will provide Johnny an attorney after the trial process begins

Answers

The correct answer is D : The court will provide Johnny an attorney.

Gideon v. Wainwright was a landmark Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that states are required to provide an attorney to defendants in criminal cases if they can not afford their own ones. The Court based its opinion on the Sixth Amendment of the Constitution.

Clarence Gideon was accused of minor burglary in a Pool Room in Florida and arrested on accusation only. He was too poor to afford an attorney and was denied one by the Florida judge. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

Gideon appealed to the Supreme Court while being in prison. He argued that he had been denied an attorney which was a violation of his rights under the 6th Amendment. The Supreme Court assigned Gideon an attorney and he received a new trial.

Gideon v. Wainwright is all about the court having to supply defendants that can't afford an attorney. So your answer would be the last one.

Which would be the least helpful for supporting interpretations about the lives of late nineteenth-century immigrants?

Assuming that this is referring to the same list of options that was posted before with this question, the correct response would be the "diary of a nativist," since Nativists were opposed to immigration so this source would be very biased.
