Carlos has 30 yards of plastic fencing to set up for a track meet he uses 85 feet of fencing how much fencing does he have left

Answers

There's 90 feet in 30 yards so 90 - 85 is 5
The first thing you need to know is that 1 yard = 3 feet. Therefore if he had 30 yards he had 90 feet of plastic fencing. From there all you have to do is take the 90 feet he has and subtract 85 feet he uses. That means Carlos has 5 feet of fencing left.

(4-3√3)(2-√3)???? (the question marks signal the gap between the question and then me starting to distribute)4(2-√3)-3√3(2-√3)
I get stuck here!! Please help

You have two binomials.  I would just FOIL them:

First:           4 x 2 = 8

Outside:  4 (-√3) = -4√3

Inside:   -3√3 (2) = -6√3

Last:   -3√3 (-√3) = 9

Addummup:  8  -  4√3  -  -6√3  +  9  =  17 - 10√3

(4-3√3)(2-√3)
(4 - 3√3)(2 - √3) -> 4 x 2 = 8
(4 - 3√3)(2 - √3) -> -3√3 x 2 = -6√3
(4 - 3√3)(2 - √3) -> 4 x -√3 = -4√3
(4 - 3√3)(2 - √3) -> -3√3 x -√3 = 3√3 x √3 = √9√3 x √3 = √27 x √3 = √81 = 9

∴ (4-3√3)(2-√3) = 8 - 6√3 - 4√3 + 9

8 - 6√3 - 4√3 + 9
= 17 - 6√3 - 4√3
= 17 + (- 6 - 4)√3
= 17 - 10√3

Without decimals, you cannot go any further.
Tell me if I was confusing at all :)

~~~20 POINTS~~~Carol is designing an oatmeal container. Her first design is a rectangular prism with a height of 12 inches, a width of 8 inches, and a depth of 3 inches.
a. What is the total surface area of the container to the nearest square inch? Use 3.14 for \pi.
b. Carol wants to redesign the package as a cylinder with the same total surface area as the prism in part α. If the radius of the cylinder is 2 inches, what is the height of the cylinder? Round your answer to the nearest inch. Use 3.14 for \pi.
Answers
I'm so sorry for the late answer!
(a) Rectangular container
There are 3 pairs of congruent sides. Each side's area can be solved by multiplying either 12, 8, or 3. Then because for each side, there is another side that is exactly the same, we can multiply by 2.
(2*12*8) + (2*12*3) + (2*8*3) = 312
(b) Surface Area of a cylinder is 2 \pi  r^(2) +2 \pi rh
We know that r is 2 and that the whole expression is equal to 312.
Plug 2 back into the equation and set it equal to 312.
2 \pi *4+2 \pi *2h = 312 \n 4 \pi *h = 312-8 \pi \n h =  (312-8 \pi )/(4 \pi ) = 23
The height of the cylinder has to be around 23 inches.
