Claire cut some apples into eights. She and her friends ate all but 17 pieces. How many whole apples and parts of apples did she have left over?
Answers
2 whole apples and 1/8 of another apple.
if she cut each apple into eights and theres 17 pieces left that as a whole number would be 2 and remainder of 1

What happens to the quotient when the divisor increase
Answers
the quotient decreases
The quotient is going to increase because they both copy each other. If the quotient decreases, then the divisor would decrease. And the same vice versa.
Squareroot(y-1) + 3 = y
Answers
note:xy means x times y and x(y) means the same thing
so first we get rid of square root then make the equation equal to zero becaues if xy=0 then x or/and y=0
squareroot(y-1)+3=y
isolate the squareroot subtrac 3 from boht sides
squareroot(y-1)=y-3
square both sides (since they are equal, you should be able to square both sides and still make it true)
(squareroot(y-1))^2=(y-3)^2 (y-1)=(y-3)(y-3) y-1=y^2-6y+9 subtrac y from both sides -1=y^2-7y+9 add 1 to both sides 0=y^2-7y+10 find what two number multiply to make 10 and add to get -7 the answer is -2 and -5
0=(y-5)(y-2) therfore y-5=0 and/or y-2=0
therefor y=5 or/and 2 might work let's try out 2 square root(2-1)+3=2 square root(1)+3=2 1+3=2 false so 2 doesn't work
Kevin is riding his bike on a 10 1/8 mile bike path. He has covered 5 3/4 miles already. How many more miles does he have to go to finish?
Answers
You do 10 1/8 minus 5 3/4 which is 35/8, or 4 3/8
so pretty much all we have to do here is subtract 10 and 1/8 minus 5 and 3/4. here's the solving 1 3 10 --- - 5 --- 8 4
the first thing we should do here is turn them into mixed fraction by multiplying the whole number and the denominator. and add the top number. so for 10 and 1/8 we multiply 8 and 10 which is 80 and add the one. so now we have our numerator which is 81/8 the bottom number stays the same!! so we now have our first mixed fraction!! 81 --- 8 now 5 and 3/4 as a mixed number is 23/4 see how the bottom number stayed the same? 23 --- 4 MOVING ON! now we just changed how these numbers look like so lets set them up again
81 23 --- - --- 8 4 now before we solve this we have to make the denominators( the bottom numbers) the same!
so we can multiply the 4 by 2 to get 8! but always make sure to do the same to the top as you did to the bottom so that means we are also multiplying 23 by 2!! so we have our new fraction! 46 --- 8 see this is simple now! lets set up our fractions again
81 46 --- - --- 8 8 now we just subtract the top numbers 81 - 46 = 35!! so our answer is 35/8
or written as a decimal 4.375 to be exact:))
hope this helped :)
I need help!. My daughters lesson is on improper Fractions and mixed numbers. I need the answers to all of these math problems and also an example explaining how to do them.

When doing improper fractions, you're going to keep the denominator the same. For example in question number 6, there are 18 triangles filled in so the improper fraction would be 18/5. Mixed numbers consist of the number of whole numbers filled and the remainder in the fraction. Therefore number 7, mixed number is 2 3/5 and the improper fraction would be 13/5. I'll list the rest of the answers below: 8.) Mixed: 1 3/5 Improper: 8/5 9.) Mixed: 4 1/4 Improper: 17/4 10.) 5/4, 7/4 12.) 13/8, 7/4, 19/8, 5/2, 21/8 13.) 4/3, 17/9, 7/3
Note: You can simplify improper fractions, this is why you'll get different denominators on the number line questions.
