What is the main effect Global Warming is having in Alaska?“The native population’s way of life depends on the sea freezing over at the right time. With warming temperatures, “we don’t freeze up until about two months later now,” says Vice Mayor Stanley Tocktoo. “By that time, the fish that we subsist on are way up in the river and we’re not able to catch many.”

Answers

Answer:

The effects of global warming in Alaska are significant, varied, and interrelated. They include melting permafrost, receding glaciers, eroding coasts, disappearing sea ice, and mounting problems for native species, such as caribou, sea otters, salmon, and polar bears.

Explanation:

Final answer:

Global Warming in Alaska is affecting the timing at which the sea freezes and the migration patterns of fish, impacting the traditional living patterns of its native population.

Explanation:

The main effect that Global Warming is having in Alaska is significantly changing the natural environment. Due to the warming temperatures induced by Climate Change, the sea freezes later and fish migration patterns are affected. This impacts the traditional subsistence practices of Alaska's native population.

Because of Global Warming, Alaska experiences an annual temperature rise that is twice the global average. This disrupts the timing of the sea freezing over. As recorded by Vice Mayor Stanley Tocktoo, the freeze happens approximately two months later compared to the past. Consequently, the fish that the native inhabitants rely on for sustenance migrate farther upstream into the river, becoming much more difficult to catch.

Richard Nixon struggled with the challenge of bringing American soldiers home from the war in Vietnam. By the time Nixon was elected in 1968, America had already been involved with Vietnamese affairs since the 1950's. President Lyndon B. Johnson first sent combat troops over to Vietnam in 1965 and when Nixon was elected over half of America did not agree with the war effort anymore. Nixon faced great opposition from the public when his strategies for pulling out troops remained elusive. His popularity enraged thousands more when he issued the Christmas bombings and the invasion of Cambodia. Plus, Americans were feeling more distrust in the government especially since they found out that the Nixon administration had been keeping information from them such as the My Lai Massacre and the Pentagon Papers which said America's involvement in Vietnam was certain even though Johnson had promised to stay out of the conflict.

Nixon also had a difficult time when news of his involvement in the Watergate scandal arose after the 1972 presidential election. Nixon was projected to win the election, but he had reporters break in to the Watergate hotel to spy during the Democratic convention that had been scheduled there. After refusing to release tapes from the time, Nixon was going to be impeached but decided to resign in 1974.
