Underline words and phrases for strong negative connotations. How did they support the authors purpose?

Answers

In his book "Children of the Drug Wars", Damon Barret evaluates the impact that war has on children and on drugs.

The underlined words and phrases support the author's purpose because they (a) draw attention to the opinion that the United States is not doing enough to help these children. Those words and phrases communicate Barret's view that these children receive a "death sentence" or that the nation has "turned its back" on them.

Which sentence does not contain any errors?A.
How much is the waitress tip?

B.
How much is the waitress' tip?

C.
How much is the waitresses tip?

D.
How much is the waitress's tip?

Answers

D, I think.

If you read A out loud, it obviously doesn't flow correctly.

B's usage of the apostrophe is incorrect; an apostrophe after the 's' is only appropriate for possessive plural nouns - or in this case, more than one waitress - but in the sentence there isn't any indication of multiple waitresses. In fact, it says "How much is the waitress' tip?", implying that there is only one, singular waitress.

C's usage of 'es' at the end of waitresses, again, implies that there are multiple waitresses, but there is no indication of this. The usage of "is" in the sentence (How much is the waitresses tip?) implies that there is only one waitress.

That leaves us with D, which doesn't contain any errors (as far as I know). Hope this helps! :)

What is the best clue to the theme of a story

Answers

The clues in a novel are the map that leads your readers (and the detective) through the labyrinth that you have created for them, allowing them to reach the end with the solution of the proposed mystery.

For example, in a police novel are physical evidence that can lead the detective in a certain direction. Do not accumulate the clues that you will give your reader in a single part of your novel. Share them intelligently throughout it. Not only will you put it a little harder, but working in that way will help you move the story forward. You can keep a complete record of the clues you have used, as well as the place and the way you have included them in the story.

Answer:

- How the characters respond to the problem.

Explanation:

As per the given story titled 'The Reluctant Neighbor' authored by Clara Bohrod, the best clue to the theme would be 'the manner in which the characters respond to the obstacles or troubles.' Since theme is demonstrated as the underlying idea or message of a work, the characters' preparation for the problems('preparations for welcoming new neighbor, Coco's imagination of her neighbor's face, and women peeking her head through the crack before opening the door') gives the audience's a clue that 'one must be prepared for upcoming challenges in life instead of running away from them or completely ignoring them.' Thus, this idea combines the entire story in a single unified and universal thought/idea through which the readers can relate.
