Slaves were look upon as property. They had no rights. They would work on the fields from sunrise to sunset. Sometimes they would also work cleaning houses and doing other chores. The frightening aspect of being a slave is that you are at the mercy of your master. If he is kind then you are lucky but there is still a possibility of cruel punishment.
