Joey had been winding up to pitch when Gramps called for a time out. What does the tense of the underlined verb reveal about the subject

Answers

Answer 1
Answer:

The tense of the verb ‘had been winding up’ is past perfect continuous. This tense is used to indicate that an action that started in the past continued up until another time in the past. In this case, the tense of the verb indicates that Joey had been winding up to pitch until Gramps called for a time out. At that moment, Joey’s winding up to pitch ended.

Answer 2
Answer: The tense of the underlined verb (which is past perfect continuous) tells us that the event took place in the past continuously.
That means that it lasted for some time in the past, but it didn't necessarily finish.

Which sentence in this excerpt from Common Sense by Thomas Paine indicates that Great Britain protected the American colonies for mutual gain? But she [Britain] has protected us, say some. A. That she hath engrossed us is true, and defended the continent at our expense as well as her own is admitted, and she would have defended Turkey from the same motive, viz., the sake of trade and dominion.B. Alas! we have been long led away by ancient prejudices and made large sacrifices to superstition. C. We have boasted the protection of Great Britain, without considering, that her motive was interest not attachment; that she did not protect us from our enemies on our account, but from her enemies on her own account, from those who had no quarrel with us on any other account, and who will always be our enemies on the same account. D. Let Britain wave her pretensions to the continent, or the continent throw off the dependence, and we should be at peace with France and Spain were they at war with Britain. The miseries of Hanover last war, ought to warn us against connections.

Which of the following is least like the others : lamp, flashlight, spotlight, flare

Answers

Answer:

Flare

Explanation:

Flare is the one odd out because it refers to the way in which light comes out from an object which sheds light from fire. Flare is not an object , whereas the other words refer to objects that shed light from a bulb. These are lamp, flashlight and spotlight. Flare comes from flames, basically.

PLZ HELP ME SOMEONE! Carol and Nora left the library at the same time. Carol biked east at a speed of 8 miles per hour. Nora biked west at a speed of 10 miles per hour. How far apart were Carol and Nora after 3 hours?

Answers

I'm not sure if my answer is right, but I think after 3 hours they would be 54 miles apart. Because if Carol goes east 8 mph that means she has gone 24 miles in 3 hours because 3 x 8 = 24. And if Nora went 10 mph going west then she has gone 30 miles because 10 x 3 = 30. Then you do 30+24 and get 54. I hope that makes sense :)
Well if Carol goes 8 mph then you do 8 x 3 = 24     And Nora is going 10  then you do 10 x 3 = 30  ...30 + 24 = 54 miles apart in 3 hours
