Which statement best expresses a claim? Although many people believe homework is a crucial part of school, there is evidence to suggest that homework may not be as valuable as once thought. The amount of homework given by some high school teachers is insane and actually has negative effects on other important aspects of a student’s life. I would have so much more time to do the extracurricular activities and hobbies I enjoy if I did not have to spend most of my evenings doing homework. Some schools have adopted homework policies that limit the amount of homework that teachers are allowed to assign their students each night.

Why are the letter (from Bud's dad, to Bud's mom) and the calendar important to Bud

Answers

Why are the letter (from Bud's dad, to Bud's mom) and the calendar important to Bud

Bud does not find his father. The man he had believed to be his father, Herman E. Calloway, turns out, in fact, to be his grandfather.

When Herman finds out that Bud's mother was named Angela Janet Caldwell, he is inconsolable. Angela Janet was his daughter, whom he had loved very, very much. Herman, however, always had very high expectations of himself and everyone around him, and he was especially hard on his daughter, because he knew that "this is a hard world, especially for a Negro woman...she's got to be ready". Herman was determined that Angela Janet "was going to be the first Calloway to get schooling all the way through college so he thought he had to be strict on her, but he went overboard". He wanted the world for her, but "it was his dream, not hers...he never gave her time to pick it for herself". Angela Janet finally couldn't take her father's intractableness anymore, and ran off with one of the drummers in her father's band. This man, who never appears nor is named in the narrative, apparently is Bud's father.

Are the verb tenses in the sentence consistent, or do they shift unnecessarily? Yesterday during the storm, the wind blows hard, and it knocked down the fence.

A.
The verb tenses are consistent.

B.
The verb tenses shift.

Please give an example for why the answer is correct!

Answers

the verb tenses shift. The sentence is talking about yesterday, so the past tense should be used consistently. However, the sentence uses "blows" instead of the past tense for blow, blew. So, the tenses are shifting between the present and past, even though the sentence is about the past.

It would be like saying: last week,  i finished my homework and will play tennis.

"will play" is inconsistent with the past tense, but "finished" is correct.
