8.21 as a mixed number

Answers

Answer 1
Answer: Hey there, 8.21 as a fraction is 8210/1000, the numerator is 8210 because 8.21*1000=8210 and the denominator is out of 100. The fraction 8210/100, can be simplified to 821/100, 821/100 as a mixed number is 8 21/100. Therefore, 8.21 as a mixed number is 8 21/100.
Answer 2
Answer: ok to get a mix number you divide the  numerator by the denominator in this case which is 21 into 100 can only go into 100 4 times so 21 into 100 is 8 4/16 reduced would be 8 1/2

trever saves 2/3 of the money he earns at his after- school job. suppose Trevor starts saving 1/4 as much as he is saving now. which statement below is true? so will Trevor saves more or less?

Answers

so 1/4 is a fraction
a fractin is less than a whole
so if he saves a fraction of what he is savind now, then he is saving only a part of what he originally saved
he is saving less
TREVOR SAVES LESS

he will save less because a fraction of a fraction will always end up smaller if it isn't improper, so instead of saving 2/3 of his money, if my math is correct, he'd only be saving 1/6 of his paycheck

The speed of a stream is 4 mph. A boat travels 8 miles upstream in the same time it takes to travel 16 miles downstream. what is the speed of the boat in still water

Answers

Answer

Find out the speed of the boat in still water .

To proof

Let us assume that the speed of the boat in still water be u .

As given

The speed of a stream is 4 mph

hence

speed upstream = u - 4

speed downstream = u + 4

Formula

Time = (Distance)/(speed)

As given

A boat travels 8 miles upstream in the same time it takes to travel 16 miles downstream.

First case for the upstream

Time = (8)/(u - 4)

Second case for the downstream

Time = (16)/(4 + u)

now compare the equations

(8)/(u - 4) = (16)/(u + 4)

simplify the equation

8( u +4 ) = 16 (u -4)

8u +32 = 16u - 64

8u = 96

u = (96)/(8)

u = 12 mph is the speed of the boat in still water .

Hence proved

The speed of the stream = 4 mph.

Let us assume speed of the boat in still water = x mph.

Total speed upstream = (x-4) mph.

Total speed downstream = (x+4) mph.

We know,  time, speed and distance relation.

Time = Distance / Speed.

Total time taken upstream = 8 / (x-4)

Total time taken downstream = 16/(x+4).

Time taken upstream = time taken downstream.

Therefore,

8 / (x-4)  =  16/(x+4).

On cross multiplication, we get

16(x-4) = 8(x+4).

16x - 64 = 8x +32.

Adding 64 on both sides, we get

16x - 64+64 = 8x +32+64

16x = 8x + 96.

Subtracting 8x from both sides, we get

16x-8x = 8x-8x + 96.

8x = 96.

Dividing both sides by 8, we get

x = 12.

Therefore, 12 mph is the speed of the boat in still water.

Explain why 1/6 is greater than 1/8 but less than 1/3

Answers

You can read fractions as one number divided by another. So 1/6 is equivalent to 1 divided by 6. It is then selfevident that the larger the denominator the smaller the number. If you have one cake and divide it between 3, 6 or eight people, three people will get a larger slice than 6 people sharing the same cake. And 6 people will get a larger slice than 8 people dividing the same cake.

1/6 is greaterthan 1/8 because 4/24 is greaterthan 3/24.

1/6 is lessthan 1/3 because 6/18 is greaterthan 3/18.

We have,

Comparing 1/6 and 1/8:

The denominators are 6 and 8.

A commondenominator for 6 and 8 is 24.

We can convert both fractions to have a denominator of 24:

1/6 = (1/6) * (4/4) = 4/24

1/8 = (1/8) * (3/3) = 3/24

Since 4/24 is greaterthan 3/24, we can conclude that 1/6 is greaterthan 1/8.

Comparing 1/6 and 1/3:

The denominators are 6 and 3 is 18.

We can convert both fractions to have a denominator of 18:

1/6 = (1/6) * (3/3) = 3/18

1/3 = (1/8) * (6/6) = 6/18

Since 6/18 is greaterthan 3/18, we can conclude that 1/6 is lessthan 1/3.

Thus,

1/6 is greaterthan 1/8 because 4/24 is greaterthan 3/24.

1/6 is lessthan 1/3 because 6/18 is greaterthan 3/18.
