A science test, which is worth 100 points, consists of 24 questions. Each question is worth either 3 points or 5 points. If x is the number of 3-point questions and y is the number of 5-point questions, the system shown represents this situation. x + y = 24 3x + 5y = 100 What does the solution of this system indicate about the questions on the test? A] The test contains 4 three-point questions and 20 five-point questions. B]The test contains 10 three-point questions and 14 five-point questions. C]The test contains 14 three-point questions and 10 five-point questions. D]The test contains 20 three-point questions and 8 five-point questions.

Answer 1
Answer:

Answer:

B. The test contains 10 three-point questions and 14 five-point questions.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us first find the solution to the system of equations.

x+y= 24

3x+5y= 100

We use substitution method.

x=24-y

Replacing the value of x in the second equation.

3(24-y)+5y=100

Then solve for y.

72-3y+5y=100

2y=100-72

2y=28

y=14

To find x let us replace the value of y in x=24-y

x=24-14

x=10

This means that the test has 14 five-point questions and 10 three point questions.

MOVIES A movie director is creating a scale model of the Empire State Building to use in a scene. The Empire State Building is 1250 feet tall. If the model is 75 inches tall, what is the scale of the model?

Answers

The scale of model is 3 inches = 50 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

Height of Empire state building = 1250 feet

Height of model of building = 75 inches

Therefore;

75 inches = 1250 feet

We will divide the height in feet with the height in inches to determine the scale of model.

1 inch = (1250)/(75)

1 inch = (50)/(3)\ feet

Multiplying both sides by 3

3*1\ inches = (50)/(3)*3\ feet\n3\ inches = 50\ feet

The scale of model is 3 inches = 50 feet

2 (12 - 8x ) = x - 11x

Answers

The solution to the equation 2(12 - 8x) = x - 11x is x = -4.

To solve the equation 2(12 - 8x) = x - 11x, we can simplify and solve for x by following these steps:

Distribute the 2 to the terms inside the parentheses:

24 - 16x = x - 11x

Combine like terms on the right side of the equation:

24 - 16x = -10x

Bring all the x terms to one side of the equation:

-16x + 10x = -24

-6x = -24

Divide both sides of the equation by -6 to isolate x:

x = 24 / 6

Simplifying the division, we get:

x = 4

Therefore, the solution to the equation 2(12 - 8x) = x - 11x is x = -4.

By performing the necessary operations of distribution, combining like terms, and solving for x, we have determined that -4 satisfies the equation. Substituting x = -4 back into the original equation confirms that both sides are equal.

so first you want to distribute the number so you get 24-16x=x-11x then you reduce so you get 24-16x=10x then you add 16x to 10x and you get 24=6x then you divide and you get the answer 4=x

This has a lot of scary words and numbers in it, but it's all just fluff.
That big ugly formula is nothing but numbers, except for the 'h' in it
near the end.  When you write your altitude in place of 'h' and push
all the numbers through your calculator, the answer is the air pressure
at that altitude.

All it's asking you to do is this:

-- Write ' 100 ' into the big formula.

-- Run all the numbers through the calculator and get the pressure at 100 meters.

-- Then write ' 1000 ' into the formula.

-- Run the whole thing through the calculator again, and see what
the pressure is at 1,000 meters.

-- Subtract, and see how much the pressure changed between 100 meters
and 1,000 meters.

You want to know what I think the whole idea is here ?  I think the whole idea
is to get you to decide which things to do first as you calculate the formula,
AND to give you practice in using your calculator to do weird stuff.

In the formula, I see a power, a set of parentheses, two multiplications, and
one subtraction. You have to decide what order to do them in.  And THEN,
you have to figure out how to do them all with your calculator.

Here's the order:

-- Inside the parentheses, multiply 2.25577x 10⁻⁵ by 'h' .
-- Inside the parentheses, subtract the result from ' 1 '.
-- Take the number inside the parentheses, and raise it to the 5.25588 power.
-- Then multiply the result by 101,325 .

For 100 meters altitude, the pressure you should get is  100,129 pascals.

Make sure you can get that with your calculator when you put '100' in place
of 'h'.  And then, when THAT works, do it with 1,000 in place of 'h'.

The number you get for  1,000 meters  should be about 10,254 pascals less.
