What did Abraham Lincoln mean when he said, "wringing their bread from the sweat of other men’s faces..."?

Answers

He would sometimes use a translated version of the bible, in this case, he did. This speech is an allusion to his bible, and he means that slave owners get labor produced yet it is not from their own work. Thus it was from the sweat of other men that that they obtained there "bread". There bread symbolizes all of their wealth.
Each looked for an easier triumph, and a result less fundamental and astounding. Both read the same Bible and pray to the same God, and each invokes His aid against the other. It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces, but let us judge not, that we be not judged.

Explanation of reparation payments and war debts

Answers

Answer:

The indebtedness of foreign nations to the Government of the United States on November 15, 1928 - ten years after the close of the World War - totalled $11,853,406,769. This sum includes both the unfunded foreign debt, with its accrued interest, and the principal to be paid during the next 60 years by the governments that have signed funding agreements with the United States.

The leading foreign debtors of the United States are Great Britain, France, Italy and Belgium. Of the total of loans advanced by this country during the war and after the Armistice, Great Britain received 41.4 per cent; France 32.9 per cent; Italy 16.0 per cent, and Belgium 3.7 per cent. Thus these nations together received 94 per cent of the total advances made to foreign governments by the Government of the United States.

Great Britain, France, Italy and Belgium all have signed funding agreements with the United States, but the agreement signed with France in 1926 still remains unratified. France made payments during 1926–28, however, aggregating $92,565,008 with the understanding that they would be credited as a part of the payments of principal required under the funding agreement when it has been ratified. The present status of the debts of the four leading foreign debtors is shown in the following table.

What alternative to slavery do you think the colonists could have used to solve the labor shortage

Answers

For one, there wasn't exactly a labor shortage. Because of the economic theory of mercantilism, the colonies were established to produce a surplus of goods. In other words, the only reason there was a labor shortage was because the colonies had been established in the first place for the purpose of creating tons and tons of mostly unnecessary stuff (like tobacco). The best solution would have been simply not to colonize America in the first place, but the colonists could also simply have done the work themselves, or hired labor from other parts of the world rather than capturing and enslaving people.

Answer:

The alternatives to slavery that colonists could have used to solve the labor shortage were The colonists have used the working system we have today meaning having employees and paying them or the colonist could have done the job themselves and everybody work equally despite the color of their skin.
