In Book 9 of the Odyssey, Ulysses saves himself and his men by blinding Polyphemus. Which lines reflect the Cyclops's disappointment at being defeated by guile and not by strength?

Answers

Answer 1
Answer:

Answer:

"Long since he menaced, such was Fate's command;

And named Ulysses as the destined hand.

I deem'd some godlike giant to behold,

Or lofty hero, haughty, brave, and bold;

Not this weak pigmy wretch, of mean design,

Who, not by strength subdued me, but by wine."

In these lines, the Cyclops states that Fate had long commanded Ulysses to be the hand destined to defeat him. However, he was expecting this hero to be some enormous giant, or a brave and bold hero. Instead, he is disappointed to learn that Ulysses is a tiny being who defeated him not through strength, but by wit.

Answer 2
Answer:

Final answer:

Polyphemus's disappointment at being defeated by guile and not by strength is shown in lines 455-458 of Book 9 of the Odyssey. The Cyclops was expecting a physical challenge, but was defeated through cunning instead.

Explanation:

In Book 9 of the Odyssey, the lines that reflect Polyphemus's disappointment at being defeated by guile and not by strength are lines 455-458:

No weakling's blow, he boasted of at feasting, Could have performed this feat with a willow wand. He lied, this crafty traveler, his blinding was no accident. But now Zeus and the other gods have paid me back.

These lines exhibit the Cyclops's frustration at being overcome not by a physical feat, but by the cunning and tricks of Odysseus. Polyphemus was confident that only a strong, boastful hero could defeat him, but he was outsmarted instead.

Plz need help on writing process part 1

Answers

the writing process is rather simple...no need to sweat  :)

1. if you have been given a specific topic, look up info from at least four different sources

2. once your sources have been approved, brainstorm what you want your paper to focus on. Your thesis statement, the last sentence of your introductory paragraph, will list three maybe four specific things you want to look at. (example of thesis: Domestic abuse is caused by several factors which are, drugs, alcohol, and past history of being abused). Your paper would focus on the bolded part.

3. Use your sources to back your thesis statement. Back to the bolded part from above. Answer the questions: who, what, where, when, why, to what extent, how often. With the example above you might have to ask more in-depth questions but your sources should help you answer, in an intelligent manner,  the in-depth questions you ask.

4. Sometimes free writing your ideas after reading your sources will help. To free write, you just write what comes to your mind about the subject you are studying. Once you do that, you might find that you've written good points but it doesn't flow...then you....

5. Organize your thoughts.

6. check your paper multiple times and have someone else check it.

Hopefully this helped and good luck. If you need more help, just let me know.

The writing process is a series of steps that writers go through when they write. There are many different ways to approach the writing process, but most writers follow a similar set of steps:

Prewriting

The prewriting stage is where you come up with ideas for your writing. You can do this by brainstorming, journaling, or doing research. Once you have some ideas, you can start to narrow them down and choose a topic to write about.

Drafting

The drafting stage is where you start to write your paper. You don't have to worry about making it perfect at this stage. Just get your ideas down on paper in a rough draft.

Revising

The revising stage is where you go back and fix up your draft. You can check for grammar and spelling errors, as well as make sure that your ideas are clear and well-organized. You may also want to ask someone else to read your draft and give you feedback.

Editing

The editing stage is where you make the final polish on your paper. You should check for any remaining errors in grammar and spelling, and you should also make sure that your paper is formatted correctly.

Proofreading

The proofreading stage is where you give your paper one last read to catch any errors that you may have missed.

Which sentence contains an adverb clause?a. I told my parents I wanted to play on the softball team this year.
b. Do you play on any of the local sports teams?
c. I believe the team practices on Monday and Thursday afternoons.
d. My father drove me to the field where the team practices.

Answers

As for this problem, the most probable and the most likely answer for this would be D. my father drove me to the field where the team practices.

On the first option, I told my parents I wanted to play on the softball team this year, there isn't an adverb clause to be found. On the second option, do you play on any of the local sports teams, there isn't an adverb clause to be found, too. On the third option, I believe the team practices on Monday and Thursday afternoons, there isn't an adverb clause to be found again. On the last option, my father drove me to the field where the team practices, the adverb clause would be where the team practices.

In act I of Shakespeare's Macbeth, the witches declare, "Fair is foul, foul is fair." This statement is central to which theme of the play?ambition
fate versus free will
appearance versus reality
power and tyranny

Answers

In act I of Shakespeare's Macbeth, the witches declare, "Fair is foul, foul is fair." This statement is central to appearance versus reality theme of the play.

The witches at first are referring to themselves that they might be ugly but they offer prediction to Macbeth that is beautiful. The witches in the starting of the play lay down the specific purpose of setting. Witches create an incantation which creates an atmosphere for the whole play which turns good into bad, bright things into gloom and right into wrong.

'Fair is foul, foul is fair' - it means that the values are reverted, things aren't the way they seem. So, the correct answer would be 'appearance versus reality'.
