a rectangle has a length that is nine feet less than four times its width. Its area is 90 ft. Algebraically determine the length of its width and length. Show work

Answers

Ok... after much confusion, I've come to the conclusion that you must have written the question wrong and it's actually the perimeter that is 90 feet so that's how I'm going to work it...

Width = w
Length = 4w - 9

P = 2w x 2L
90 = 2w + 2(4w - 9)
90 = 2w + 8w - 18
90 = 10w - 18
108 = 10w
108/10 = w
10 4/5 = w

Width is 10 4/5 ft

Length = 4w - 9
L = 4(10 4/5) - 9
L = 43 1/5 - 9
L = 34 1/5 ft

Length 34 1/5 ft  Width 10 4/5 ft or
Length 34.2 ft and width 10.8 ft

Mr. Brown bought a television set and paid $110 as the first installment. If he increases each payment by $20 and pays a total of 6 installments, how much will the television set have cost him?

Answers

210 would be the answer
It will cost him $230 because you take 20 and times it by 6 because that's how many installments he had and you get $120 then you add the $110 that he bought the television set for and that will give you $230

When you turned 8, a family member put $470 in a savings account to help save for college or another big life goal. If your savings account continuously earns 2.1% interest per year, how much will you have in your savings account when you turn 18? (Show your work)

Answers

The answer is $578.57.

To answer this, we will use the future value of lump sum deposit (refer to the attached picture). Substitute the following given to the formula.
PV = 470
r = 2.1%
t = 10 years

FV = 470 (1 + 0.021)^10
FV = 470 (1.021)^10
FV = 470 (1.2309...)
FV = 578.57

Your savings account will contain $578.57 when you turn 18.
